I was called by blit.studio to design, animated and compose a 2 minutes part of the 10 min VR experience Frida Kahlo – Life Of an icon. The VR experience takes place as the last stop of a tour of her life in mapping and audiovisual installations at the IDEAL Centre d’Arts Digitals in Barcelona.
I developed the dreamlike sequence that reflected Frida’s imaginary world, making references of her fixations and recurring themes.
If you want to experience it in VR (believe me is so much better in stereoscopic 360 video) you can visit the show in Barcelona until June 15, 2022.

This concept came from art from Alicja Kot. Trying to honor her artwork I looked for water melon models and intervened the textures using neural style transfer to make them look more plastic. I also simulated rain and wind with fog crossing the huge watermelon mountains.
To simulate a plastic style I used machine learning to imprint Frida’s Style on to the model textures. This was used on many fruits and models for the crying coconut scene
Another concept from Alicja. I used a rigged skeleton and textured it with an ivory with scratches of gold material that gave a great look. The whole feeling of the scene is to have an ivory look. I illuminated it with very spotted points of lights to give it a worm but also gloomy look. Is a great experience to enter inside the sculpt in VR.
I made this concept to honor Frida’s love for painting fruits. I scatter a lot of fruits on a plastic space. I also treated textures with a machine learning to give them a paintbrush effect.
The ending of the imaginary worlds was a cave honoring a Mexican cenotes. This was also one of my concepts but in this case I ended up making something more realistic to connect it with the next scene.
I choose to filled it with totems and animals that were very common on her paintings. I modeled the cave from scratch, filled it with ivy, plants, and rock models form Quixel and other libraries.
